Olivier Beaufils from Aurora Energy Research discussed the immense benefits batteries are providing Texans, including millions in savings, reliable electricity during extreme heat and cold, and more
I live in Houston. I have solar panels, and inverter and battery back up. I appreciate that it allowed us to have power throughout the hurricane beryl/clean up period. Even on a normal day we use solar power all day and battery power all night and give more to the grid than we take. My only complaint is that centerpoint owns the meter and it seems that centerpoint wants the meter to meter what our home uses, regardless of whether we get that energy from the grid or from the battery. consequently, I think we get charged for the power we use from our battery. Additionally, according to https://sunroof.withgoogle.com/ my system in TX pays for itself in 20 years, and my system in NYC pays for itself in 5 years.
That was an excellent podcast, and the referenced report has excellent graphics. Great work!
